Lot 422: 1961 Trojan Trobike
Pioneer, Vintage and Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams (29th April 2007)
The Trobike was announced in 1960 as minimalist transport for one and was powered by a 98cc, two-stroke, Clinton ‘Panther’ engine. It was a single speed machine constructed around a Duplex type frame, the overall length being 48ins and it was priced at £49/19/6d fully assembled or, in kit form, just £25. Top speed was 30mph and fuel consumption claimed was 140mpg. It was distributed in the U.K. by Lambretta Concessionaires and it is thought that only 1,000 or so machines were made during the one year production run. The road-going version, which this is, was equipped with front and rear brakes. This machine, the subject of recent major restoration, comes with an excellent history file recording the restoration details and enjoys the benefit of being fitted with the larger 120cc two-stroke engine with automatic clutch. This charismatic lightweight machine is offered with V5 and V5C registration documents and copies of period road tests.
