Lot 404: c.1965 Greeves-Triumph 350cc Project
Pioneer, Vintage & Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams (27th April 2008)
One of the most popular of all off-road specials, the Greeves-Triumph (or Tri-Greeves) has become established as a marque in its own right. Although Greeves chassis was widely recognised as among the best, there were many riders unwilling to put up with the two-strokes sometimes wayward temperament. The obvious solution was to fit a four-stroke engine; Triumphs compact 350cc twin was a relatively easy fit and rapidly became the unit of choice. This collection of parts includes a Greeves frame dating from the mid-1960s, a set of the later-type banana leading-link forks and a Triumph Tiger 90 engine dating from 1966. The vendor acquired the machine from a commercial garage clearance some 25 years ago, and although it has been dismantled, the planned rebuild was never taken further. There are no documents with this Lot, which is offered without reserve.
