Lot 112: 1984 Aston Martin V8 Saloon
Summer 2005, Coys (1st August 2005)
Aston Martin introduced the DBS in 1967 but built it concurrently with the DB6 for three years. Its chassis was a revised version of the DB6 with an extra inch in the wheelbase and 4.5 inches added to the front and rear tracks; rear suspension was by a de Dion axle on coil springs. As with the DB6, it had the straight six engine and the chief difference was the elegant new body styled by William Towns which remained in production for 22 years.Being a full four-seater, the DBS took Aston Martin in a new direction. If anyone wondered why the engine bay was so spacious the answer came in 1969 with 5.3 litre V8. Taking the cue from Rolls-Royce, engine output was not disclosed and this was more than an affectation, it was a statement of attempt. Aston Martin had long held an enviable reputation for quality and the V8 models enhanced it.Outstanding performance and, despite being a spacious four-seater, super handling characterised the V8. This allowed it to be chucked around like an MG Midget, although at much higher speeds. It is also one of those rare cars which can hold its own in any company. This excellent V8 saloon that we are offering today is finished in a refreshing combination of Islay blue with magnolia hide. Described deservedly by its owner as 'excellent' the car comes with a substantial file of bills from the Aston Martin factory and authorised agents for restoration work in the early 1990's totalling nearly 30,000. The car has benefited from a recent 1,200 service and comes with V5, current MoT valid until May 2006, old MoT's, original stamped service book and fully detailed service history with original invoices.
