Lot 204: 1965 Mercedes-Benz 220 Coupe

The Mercedes 220 series was first introduced in the 1959 which spawned a successful range of models that was slowly developed throughout its product cycle. The 220 combined innovation and engineering quality and set standards that Mercedes-Benz are now known by. The 220 monicker was re-introduced in 1959 and, like the previous 220, the new cars had a 2195cc six cylinder engine giving the car a good turn of speed and was available in a choice of either "S" or "SE" specifications. The more expensive SE coupe and cabriolet models featured fuel injection and in 1962 came the addition of disc brakes. The 220 Coupe shared its two door body with the cabriolet model. The elegant roof line featured a large "wrap-around" rear screen and pillar-less doors. Unlike the smaller engined "Fintail" models, the 220 came with "stacked" headlights either side of the traditional Mercedes-Benz grille. Production continued until 1965 and was subsequently re-introduced in 1968 with production ceasing in the mid-1970's. The 220 coupe offered here is from the last year of production, 1965, and is described by the vendor as being in good condition with a full restoration being carried out by Automerc Services of Hornsey. Finished in red ,the original black leather interior is described to be in good condition. The car is supplied with a current MoT and road fund licence valid until March 2006.
