Lot 116: Alfa Romeo Round Tail Spider 1750

Designed by Pininfarina and first seen as the Duetto in 1966, the Alfa Spider acquired a cult following after appearing in the movie The Graduate, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. The original Boat Tail design was dropped in 1967, in favour of a more aerodynamically efficient Kamm Tail, when a 1962cc version also became available. The model continued in production for over 27 years, until the early nineties, with only detail changes to the original 1966 Pinifarina design. The most desirable of the Spiders is the original "Duetto" with the round or boat tail body and faired in headlights lights. This is what we have offered here. Originally registered in South Africa in RHD form, the car was imported into the UK in 1990. In 2000 the car was fully restored and has been well cared for since. Finished in red with black interior, the car is equipped with a 1968cc, twin cam engine, from a later Spider, which is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
