Lot 109: Lotus Esprit

When Lotus released the Esprit in 1977 it received rave reviews. This Giugiaro-styled, mid-engined replacement for the Europa was like nothing seen before. Sporting a 1973cc, twin-cam, four cylinder engine, mounted directly behind the cabin, the Esprit offered startling acceleration and up to 130mph. Built on a steel, back-bone chassis with lightweight, fibreglass body, the Esprit took Lotus to another level. This 1986, 2.2 ltr example, is offered complete with an extensive history file in support of the low, 66,000 recorded miles. In 2005 the car was the subject of considerable expenditure to keep it in tip top condition. Finished in factory black with black velour interior the car has the 2174cc, twin cam engine mated to a 5 speed transmission. The car is described as being in excellent condition throughout.
