Lot 631: 1934 MG PA Two-seater Sports
Collectors' Motor Cars, Motorcycles, Bonhams (19th November 2007)
MG’s PA, one of a distinguished line of Midget models, succeeded the J Type in 1934 and, although it shared the same bore and stroke as its predecessor, the new engine boasted three main bearings and was fuelled by twin SU semi-downdraught carburettors. The model featured a modified exhaust system and heavy duty clutch. Chassis detail was subtly different and the wheelbase marginally longer, enabling the PA to be offered in either two-seater or occasional-four body styles. The two-seater retailed at £222 and gave 35mpg fuel economy.
JV 2654 was acquired by the present owner in his student days in 1969 and used by him on a regular basis until 1976, its final outing being a two week trip to Sweden that year. It was fitted at that time with a Morris 1000 engine which it still retains. It is now offered as a very worthy restoration project, sitting on correct wheels, the body being original and retaining the slab petrol tank at the rear. There are no seats or hood and the dashboard was modified many years ago. A Bluemels ‘Brooklands’ steering wheel is fitted. This car merits restoration and interestingly is unrecorded in the register of surviving P-type MGs. The car is offered with an old style logbook and past MoT certificate and we are pleased to report that, although the car has not been registered with Swansea for many years, the DVLA have very recently issued a new V5C document for its original JV 2654 number.
