Lot 344: 1978 Ford Granada Ghia MkII 2.8 litre Four Door Saloon

Top-of-the-range from the Ford Motor Company in 1978 was the 2.8 litre Granada Ghia. The Granada had been face-lifted in 1977 with cleaner and more elegant styling and the adoption of a new range of higher efficiency, German-built engines. The Ghia models incorporated interior luxury more commonly seen in significantly more expensive motor cars, no expense being spared to provide the last word in passenger comfort and luxury. The Granada appealed to fleet customers for their middle range executives, the V6-engined, 2.8 litre models, particularly when offered to automatic specification as this example, offering effortless, high speed motorway cruising between business meetings, albeit rather at the expense of fuel economy. This Cologne-built car was bought new by the present owner’s family in 1978. It is presented in red livery with black cloth interior and benefits from underbody protection and is equipped with a full music system and eight-track player with tapes. The recorded mileage at the time of cataloguing was just 34,250 miles from new. Regularly serviced and maintained by its recently deceased garage proprietor owner, the car was last regularly used some seven years ago. It is offered with a cherished number plate and equipped with a Sigma alarm system. A new exhaust system was fitted in 2002 and the car is set up to run on unleaded fuel. This emerging classic has been carefully stored in dry premises and will be MoT tested prior to the sale date.
