Lot 319: 1965 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet Pick -Up
Légende et Passion Monaco, Coys (14th May 2005)
Everyone knows the story of the Beetle, but while the concept remained unaltered since 1938, it underwent over 70,000 identifiable modifications. It was this constant development and attention to detail which allowed the Beetle to maintain its position and which make good examples a sensible purchase today. The cabriolet version, built by Karmann, was a cult car even in its own day. It is not difficult to understand why since it had VW's legendary build quality, finish, sweet gear change, reliability and, unlike many cabriolets of its time, its hood kept the elements out. It was a car which was often chosen for its many qualities by buyers who could afford more expensive models. It is perhaps unsurprising that these later cars remain popular, with their more modern suspension and more powerful engines they really are the ultimate development of the design. Finished in pale yellow, this cheeky car will raise a smile anywhere, both for the driver and passers by. This Beetle was originally an ex-Bundes Post pick-up which was fully customised in 1998 in France by Lecocq. It was converted to a cabriolet featuring a lowered screen and side windows, twin exhausts and a rear wooden deck to carry your beach gear and surfboard. The car is described by the vendor to be in concours condition and has won first prize in show at many events around Europe. Presented with a full canvas soft top and only 30,000 kilometres from new, this unique car will provide a lot of fun for its new owner.Cette voiture, totalement modifie en 1998, est trs attirante et idale pour loisirs.
