Lot 005: MG MGB GT MkII

Introduced three years after the successful roadster version, the MGB GT made its debut in 1965. The GT offered a practical 2+2 hatchback body that made it ideal for everyday use and touring. The new steel body shell added 160lbs of extra weight but this did not really blunt the healthy performance figures and 100mph was still within reach. The GT used a higher front windscreen to accommodate the higher roof line, a one-piece tailgate offered hatchback versatility along with a small fold down rear bench seat. Standard equipment and options were similar to those found on the open roadster version. Popular options included wire wheels and an overdrive gearbox. First registered in January 1971, this desirable overdrive gearbox model has recently had over �3,000 spent on restoration. This included a respray and a retrimmed leather interior including leather seat backs and door cards. New carpets have also been fitted along with new tyres and batteries. The engine has also been converted to run on unleaded fuel. Wire wheels complete what appears to be a very desirable package. The car comes with a V5C and has an MOT until June 2010.
