Lot 167: BMW Isetta
The BMW Bubble Car burst onto our roads in the summer of 1955, shocking young and old alike. A post-war phenomenon, these small cheap cars were predominantly for urban use, developed to satisfy the changing European market; the most recognisable of the breed was the BMW Isetta, built in various guises from 1955 to 1962. The design was very space conscious, and there lay responsibility for the car's quirky styling. The engine was a BMW 297cc motor cycle unit mounted in the rear of the car. On offer today is a 300 model that is described as being in excellent order throughout having been restored to original specification with costs of over £20,000 between 1998 until 2004. Manufactured on the 27th April 1961 and with the current owner since 1988, this fantastic car is finished in red with a red interior and is supplied with the registration number '21 LCV', a V5 document and a file documenting the restoration. This highly collectable cult car is the smart way to beat traffic on the roads of Britain and more fun than you can shake a stick at.
