Lot 117: Bentley R Type Saloon

First available in 1952, the R Type had the Big Bore, 4566cc, straight-six engine, an automatic option (standard on later cars) and a much larger boot. The extra power had been an option on the MKVI but was a welcome addition on the slightly heavier R-Type. The proportions were also more pleasing to the eye but chassis production numbers were a mere 2320, including coachbuilt examples.Offered here is a very original 1954 R-Type, which is equipped with the rare and desirable automatic transmission. The originality of this lovely car is supported and enhanced by an outstanding history file, which includes a mint condition sales brochure, period advertising pieces, period road tests, original build sheet, numerous Harvey Walsh Ltd, invoices for servicing and repairs and every MoT certificate since 1963 (44 in total).Finished in silver over black with grey hide interior, the car is in excellent condition both structurally and mechanically.
