Lot 203: 2005 MV Agusta F4 Oro
Légende et Passion, Coys (20th May 2006)
MV Agusta is one of the most famous and glamorous names in motorcycling with a long racing pedigree that includes 75 World Titles between 1950 and 1976. Like their English counterparts, MV Agusta succumbed to the severe and growing competition from Japanese manufacturers in the late 1970's. However the return of the MV Agusta name has to be one of the most dramatic marque resurrections of our time. Claudio Castiglione of the Cagiva Group commissioned Massimo Tamborini (already having an impressive curriculum vitae with Bimota, Ducati and Ferrari), to head the design project. The fruit of his labour was the exquisite F4 'Serie Oro' (or Gold Series). Only a limited edition of 300 were made - one going straight to the Guggenheim Museum as a prime example of automotive art - the other 299 were sold almost immediately to collectors and enthusiasts alike. The much more affordable Silver Series was produced in sufficient numbers to be available to the merely rich biker. The sheer beauty of the F4 speaks for itself; the Guggenheim has ensured that it officially enters that particular hall of fame. The engineering bravura that went into the design quite literally got the "thumbs-up" from motorcycling deity, Giacomo Agostini, when he rode it at the cleverly conceived publicity launch. The in line four cylinder 750 cc engine produces 126 bhp at 12,200 rpm, making the bike capable of speeds in excess of 270 kph. This is a truly elite superbike, with features that include a sub frame made of super-light alloys and a magnesium single-sided swing arm with adjustable ride height. Described by its one owner as in 'as new' condition with just 1,100kms this rare and exquisite motorcycle is ready to be enjoyed by any pilot ready to suit up.La fameux MV Agusta n'a pas besoin d'une introduction.
