Lot 221: Jaguar XJ6 3.2

In 1986 Jaguar introduced the, all new, long anticipated replacement for the XJ6. When the new car was unveiled there was mass disappointment. If you were a Jaguar fan, you were left wondering how anyone could leap from the traditional curves and subtle styling of the old XJ to the motorised shoe box that was the XJ40. Mechanically there were no real complaints, unless you bought a 2.9, sohc, breathless version. No, it was the styling or lack of it, that let the car down. Despite these major shortcomings and because Jaguar were skint the XJ40 stayed in production for 10 years and then sanity returned. The restyled X300 came on stream complete with sexy curves and traditional Jaguar styling.This lovely example of the X300 was originally registered to Jaguar Dealer, Swain & Jones of Farnham as a demonstrator. The vendor bought the car directly from Swain & Jones on the 27th September 1996 and has covered only 72,500 miles in the intervening 10 years.Equipped with the 3239cc, straight six. Dohc engine and four speed auto transmission, the car is complete with all original manuals and has been maintained in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.
