Lot 014: MG B GT
Classic Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (22nd October 2008)
Launched in 1962 to replace the MGA which had done wonders for the reputation of the marque and sold in previously unheard-of numbers, the MGB was also an immediate success. Powered by an enlarged 1,789cc version of the BMC 'B' series engine with pushrod operated overhead-valves, it developed a useful 94bhp and produced bags of torque at very low revs. Providing comfortable accommodation for two, it had a useful load area to the rear and remains a very pleasing and practical classic today.
This 1980 MGB GT comes with a thick file of history and all its old MOTs back to 1990. The mileage of 51,000 currently on the clock is believed by the vendor to be genuine because of the "excellent and and original" interior. The exterior is also described as "excellent". The car has been used daily throughout the summer since it was bought 5 years ago and is said to be very reliable. It had a new clutch and master cylinder fitted earlier this year and has an MOT until September 2009.
