During the late thirties and early forties American cars were still in full production, while Europe was gripped by WWII. This gave the Americans a bit of a lead in design and technology, meaning that some of the cars leaving American factories appeared to be ahead of the time. The imbalance would soon be addressed in the post-war years but the difference between early thirties American cars some late 1930's models was striking.Offered here is one such automobile; a 1939 Pontiac Silver Streak. With its streamlined bodywork, capacious interior and lusty 3.6 litre straight six, it offers an eminently usable package. It is said to have been acquired as a reserve for the 2007 Peking to Paris historic Rally but became surplus to requirements when the No1 car was ready on time.The car is UK registered and has previoulsy been MoT'd but the tester has failed the car at a recent test, because it has no indicators or washers fitted (the way it left the factory) and has a slight imbalance to front brakes (The VT30 is in the file). The car is said to start readilly and run stronlgy.Originally imported from New York in 1989, the car is described as being extremely sound and ready to use once the minor MoT issues are sorted.
