Lot 726: 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible

Ford created a new class of car almost overnight with the introduction of the Mustang sports coupé part way through the 1964 season. Aimed at the affluent young, for whom a car was as much a lifestyle statement as means of transport, the Mustang succeeded brilliantly, achieving sales in excess of a quarter million by the end of ’64. A 170cu in (2.8-litre) 101bhp six was standard equipment initially, but the majority of customers specified one of the optional V8s. Dating from the very first year of Mustang production, this Convertible model was manufactured on 18th August 1964 at Ford’s Dearborn factory and imported from the USA by the vendors in 1988. The car has the desirable 289cu in (4,727cc) 210bhp small-block V8 engine and Cruise-o-Matic three-speed automatic transmission, while other noteworthy features include chromed wheels, whitewall tyres, trunk-mounted luggage grid and Ford radio. Finished in Raven Black with red vinyl upholstery, black carpets and white convertible top, it is offered with old Swansea V5 and current V5C registration documents, numerous expired MoT certificates, copies of US bill of sale and South Carolina Certificate of Title.
