Lot 027: 1962 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 MKII 2+2
Fine Historic Motor Cars, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (23rd November 2005)
Finished in ice blue over white with black vinyl upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in superb condition with regard to its engine, transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly despatched new to Varney's Garage, St Helier Jersey on 15th March 1962 (with a hardtop but without overdrive), it is said to have been "subsequently exported as a low mileage RHD car to South Africa". Laid-up at some stage due to a "lack of spares", it was supposedly re-commissioned by its next owner with a "Rudd type manifold, rockers and aluminium cover" that boosted engine power to a "claimed 183bhp". A farmer by profession, he took the Big Healey with him to Lesotho where it once again entered a period of inactivity before being acquired by its present keeper some three and a half years ago. Benefiting from a "bare metal, engine out" repaint, new trim, tonneau cover and Denis Welch front disc brakes, this appealing MKII is "now minus the radio but with an overdrive". Believed but not warranted to have covered 22,744 miles from new, it is offered for sale with driver's manual, Heritage Certificate, MOT certificate valid until May 15th 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until 30th April 2006.
PLEASE NOTE: The vendor has also informed us that the car come with a works hardtop. Please also be aware that the Heritage Cetificate that accompanies the vehicle does definitely state that it was dispatched to St. Helier, and not reportedly, and that it was re-commissioned and not 'supposedly re-commissioned' as stated.
PLEASE NOTE: THE VENDOR HAS INFORMED US THAT THIS LOT IS CURRENTLY FITTED WITH AN EARLER TYPE 100/6 BONNET THAT HE BELIEVES IT ACQUIRED DURING ITS TIME IN SOUTH AFRICA.
