Lot 400: 2381BC The Bedrock Buggy
Fine Motor Cars, Coys (5th July 2008)
Produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, The Flintstones is about a working class Stone Age man's life with his family and his next door neighbour and best friend. It is set in the town of Bedrock in the Stone Age era and represents an allegory to American society of the mid-to-late 20th century; in the Flintstones' fantasy version of the prehistoric past, dinosaurs, sabre-toothed tigers, woolly mammoths, and other long extinct animals co-exist with barefoot cavemen who use technology equivalent to that of the 20th century. Alongside Fred and Wilma Flintstone are Barney and Betty Rubble as well as other interesting co-stars such as Cary Granite, Stony Curtis and Rock Hudstone. The cars were also equally as inventive with sports models, family cars and even cranes and diggers operated in conjunction with various dinosaurs. The recent interest in the Flintstones was kick-started recently by the release of the feature film staring John Goodman as Fred and Rick Moranis as Barney. With the global interest already in place, Dudley County Council decided to commission their very own Bedrock Buggy in order to showcase a carnival style event that was to take place there. The production of the vehicle was organised by the vendor and subsequently reverted to him afterwards. It has since been used in numerous displays up and down the country and has been used in this capacity for the last 15 years. Whilst a certain amount of work would be required for it to pass an MoT test, it still remains in a good usable condition and is offered here at no reserve.
