1974 Porsche 911 RSR Recreation
The Carrera RSR has a special place in Porsche history because it was the first time that the company ever built a "homologation special" version of a production car. In the early 1970's, long-distance sports car racing had reached new heights of excitement, thanks in no small measure to the duels between the mighty Porsche 917 and the Ferrari 512. Then the rules were changed, a three litre limit was imposed and the category began to fall apart; it should have worked since it ran to the same capacity limit as Formula One but, for a variety of reasons, it did not. As has often happened over the years, the sports controlling body then began to talk about a replacement formula; the championship would be run with production-based cars, essentially a "silhouette formula". Porsche was interested in such a formula; it had built the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 in sufficient numbers for it to be homologated as a Group 3 Production GT car. The rules said that once a model had been homologated then an evolution of the same model could be made provided it remained in the same class. This particular car offered here is a 1974 Turbo model with extensive modifications to engine, chassis and body using original factory RSR parts throughout and built in 1997 to the highest concours period correct standards.Finished in silver with Martini works paint job the car sits on RSR magnesium centre lock wheels and looks striking from every angle. The 3.5 litre engine features original Bosch RSR twin plug ignition system, RSR wiring loom, RSR oil cooler and many other RSR parts including dry sump oil tank, centre oil drilled cam shafts, crank shaft pulley etc etc.Power is fed through a 915 transmission with 930 LSD and RSR aluminium race clutch and flywheel. The suspension is the complete RSR set up with Bilstein shocks. Bringing the car to a stop is RSR dual brake master cylinder pedal cluster and brake callipers. Please note a full specification sheet is available on request. Supplied with a V5 document and FIA papers pending, this car is presented in immaculate condition.
