Lot 35: Jaguar XK150 FIXED HEAD COUPE

Making its first appearance in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was to prove a most worthy successor to the outgoing XK140 and, although retaining the basic well-established XK styling, the most obvious differences were the one-piece windscreen and wider body. The specification was to feature a number of improvements including Dunlop disc brakes all round, whilst the 210bhp engine, previously only available as a special equipment option, was now standardised. Like its forbears, the XK150 was to enjoy considerable success, particularly in the USA where it was to feature prominently in competition. By the time XK150 production had ceased, with the advent of the E-Type, a total of 9,395 cars had been built in roadster, drophead and fixed head coup� versions. A 1959 example of the fixed head coup�, this car is an original UK specification model finished in metallic grey with red leather trim and has the optional automatic transmission. The car is understood to have been the subject of a ground-up restoration some sixteen years ago and is understood to have covered only around 2,000 miles since the completion. The recorded mileage currently stands at approximately 65,000 which, according to the vendor, may well be correct. The red upholstery remains original although patinated, and the car is fitted with the optional wire wheels correctly shod with cross-ply tyres. An extensive file of documentation is provided which includes photographs of restoration work in progress, original RF60 logbook, a current MOT certificate valid until 11th November 2008 and a V5C registration document.
