Lot 112: Morris Mini Cooper S
Classic - Collectors and Historic Motor Cars, Barons (12th February 2008)
The Cooper S first appeared in 1963 with the 1071cc A-series engine. In 1964, the 75bhp 1275cc engine was introduced in and a 970cc Cooper S also joined the range that year as a "homologation special" which meant that the Cooper could compete in the 1000cc racing series. The 970cc model only stayed in production for one year.n line with the rest of the Mini range the Cooper models received the Mk II updates in 1967 consisting of a squarer grille, larger rear window and larger rear lamps. The Cooper S retained the twin carb 1275cc engine which now produced a lively 76bhp. Other improvements included twin fuel tanks, an oil cooler and modified drive shafts. Many consider the 1275 Cooper S to be the ultimate Mini variant. The Mini Cooper certainly caught the motoring worlds imagination during the Sixties notching up many Rally and Race successes but if the view of Sir Alec Issigonis had prevailed, the Mini Cooper would never have been. The designer of the Mini was totally opposed to the whole idea.Since acquiring the car in October 2007 (through Barons) the vendor has recently spent nearly 1700 the car and it now drives nicely, starts in the morning, first attempt and stops straight and true. These recent works was done by renowned West London Classics, who specialise in English classics and particulary in Minis. Details of the work done are as follows: overhaul of the braking system, thourough engine check including overhaul of the choke system, ignition and carburation. Front weel bearing and driveshaft universal joint kits, upgraded headlamps. The vendor describes the car as having an excellent, original, interior where everything works as it should including gauges, heater system and so on.The mecanics are also excellent including engine, drive train, brakes, suspension and electrical system. The car is equipped with a reletively recent exhaust system and excellent tyres. The body is in very good condition but has been restored. The floors are in very good condition with some evidence of earlier welded repairs. This Cooper S is only offered for sale due to the relocation of the vendor, who is off to work in Japan. The car is finished in the traditiona white with black roof and is equipped with Minilte type, alloy road wheels, 1275cc engine and 4 speed transmission.
