Lot 130: Aston Martin DBS
Classic Collectors & Historic Cars, Barons (11th December 2007)
The William Towns penned Aston Martin DBS was first seen in 1967 with the 3995cc, dohc, straight six engine from the DB6 under the bonnet. Though the model was produced from 1967 to 1972, alongside the DBS V8 for three years, there were only 829 examples built, making it a rare car. Rarer still are the examples equipped with the ZF 5 Speed manual transmission, which is what we have here.Currently owned by an AMOC member, the car is complete with ownership history dating back some 19 years. This history shows 3 other AMOC Member owners since 1991 and a documented, comprehensive restoration carried out on behalf of a German owner, in Germany during 1991. There is a photographic record of the restoration showing evidence of new sills, boot floor, inner wings (front) and rear chassis work. The photographs also show that the engine was also rebuilt.Finished in black with black hide, piped red, the car sits on chrome 6J wire wheels and is described as being in outstanding condition. The vendor has listed all maintenance works in the history file, which include 4 new Pirelli P4000 Tyres this year, new handbrake parts, oil service and half shaft seal in February, replacement Alternator, brake callipers serviced, replacement power steering rack and track rod ends, new clutch master cylinder, starter rebuilt, carbs overhauled etc. This beautiful Aston Martin is registered in both the UK and Germany and is said to have provided the vendor with excellent, trouble free motoring. During a recent 400 mile round-trip it is said to have behaved impeccably, even when faced with traffic jams. The oil pressure reads 75 to 80lbs, the temperature reads well within normal and the car handles B roads with aplomb, aided by the wider chrome wires and modern Pirelli tyres.A rare opportunity to acquire one of these grossly underrated Astons. With DB4,5 and 6 prices going stratospheric, these early DBS models are beginning to appreciate and can only go one way.
