Lot 329: 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SEC Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEC was first introduced at the 1981 Frankfurt Motor Show where its fluent elegance caused a ripple of excitement amongst the traditional Mercedes-Benz buying public. Developed from the W126 saloon of the S Class series, the shape of this coupe showed clearly its heritage; however its front end had a lower, sportier looking profile. Absolutely the best materials went into the production of this top line coupe which included all of the safety aspects of the S Class saloons as well as a generously comfortable arrangement of controls and excellent utilisation of available space. The V8 light alloy, fuel injected petrol engine was modified to achieve the highest possible torque at low engine speeds. Complete with the personalised registration plate, SDZ 380, this good example rides on AMG alloy wheels shod with low profile tyres. Internally it features an Alpine stereo music system with detachable face and outside car cover. It also comes equipped with the original handbook, first aid kit and warning triangle. Originally dispatched by Alan Day, the accompanying file includes numerous items of correspondence detailing work undertaken by the subsequent six recorded owners.
