Lot 607: Aston Martin V8 Saloon

Concours & Auction Weekend, Coys (18 July 2009)

he V8 Series of Aston Martin cars are as unmistakable today as they were when first launched in 1970. The traditional styling cues, the use of the very finest materials - Connolly leather, burr walnut veneers, Wilton carpets - unashamed luxury combined with exhilarating yet refined performance and enormous physical presence, all point to the cars' unique pedigree and ancestry. More than anything it is the bespoke nature of the cars' construction. Body panels shaped by expert hands, Connolly hide stitched by time-hardened fingers, and most importantly each and every engine bearing the signature of the craftsman who hand-built it. The V8 Coupe is an Aston Martin in the grand tradition. The rewards of perfectly balanced engineering and velvet gloved refinement run deep. The V8 Coupe is chosen for its strong and eloquent identity by people who know precisely what they want. The look is one of solidity in depth, but with a sense of restraint embodied in its hand crafted aluminium bodywork. The cars' intrinsic elegance and charisma are complimented by a newly developed 349 bhp version of Aston Martin's classic 32 valve, 5.3 litre V8 engine. Suspension, brakes and wheels also reflect the clear sighted evolutionary engineering that is embodied in the V8 Coupe. The V8 Coupe sports new six spoke alloy wheels and a new design of radiator grille with air intakes and auxiliary driving lamps integrated within the front spoiler present an elegant but purposeful aerodynamic stance. Manufactured in 1974 this Aston Martin is described by the vendor as being in near concours condition having recently undergone major work. The car is supplied with a file of numerous bills for work carried out over the years. Accompanying the bills are an original instruction book, brochure and specification sheet. A V5 document and MoT test certificates dating back from 1983 through to 2007 are also present. Finished in blue with a cream leather interior this V8 saloon is certainly a model in the Aston Martin range that is sure to appreciate in value in the coming years.
