Lot 421: 1950 Mini-Motor & Ladies Raleigh Cycle
Pioneer, Vintage & Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams (27th April 2008)
An Italian design, the Mini-Motor clip-on engine was manufactured in the UK by Trojan Ltd of Croydon, Surrey and sold in large numbers at a time when there was an immense demand for cheap motorised transport. The self-contained, 49.9cc two-stroke power unit was mounted above a bicycles rear wheel, which it drove via a friction roller, and was capable of propelling a cycle at speeds of up to 30mph. This Mini-Motor is attached to a ladies Raleigh cycle equipped with dynamo lighting and full chaincase. Owned by the vendor since 2002, the machine was last used on the road in 2004 and is presented in good condition. It is offered with expired MoT (July 2004) and Swansea V5C registration document. No reserve.
