Lot 122: Jaguar MKII 3.4 Saloon
Classic Collectors & Historic Cars, Barons (19th June 2007)
By 1955 Jaguar were well established. The XK engine had been a great success as had the cars powered by the superb dohc straight six. The XK Sportscar and MKVII Saloon were selling well and Jaguar had won at Le Mans with the C Type but they lacked a compact saloon that would compete with the MG Magnette, Citroen DS and other mid-sized saloons of the era. This all changed in 1955 with the launch of the new 2.4 & 3.4 Saloon, which sported the legendary, Le Mans winning 3.4 and a de-stroked 2.4 version of the XK engine. In 1959 the much revised MKII was launched with three engine options and a legend was born. This 3.4, automatic MKII has recently benefited from a bare metal repaint, refinished wood veneers, new headlining, furflex and carpets. It is equipped with power steering, automatic transmission, Reutter reclining front seats, picnic tables, chrome wire wheels, stainless steel exhaust, steering lock, period (possibly original) radio and is described as being in superb condition throughout.Finished in green with nicley patinated, original tan leather the car is offered complete with various bills from Jaguar specialists SC Parts, XK Engineering, SNG Barret and many others.A lovely example of a relatively early MKII, which is well equipped to deal with modern driving conditions. The power steering is the variable type and the auto box is the trusty, 3 speed, Borg Warner unit. The car has just received an oil service, carburettor service and auto transmission fluid replacement.
