Lot 124: Aston Martin V8 Volante

The Aston Martin V8 Volante was first produced in 1978 in response to strong demand from the American market for a convertible version of the V8 coupe which had been in production since 1970. It was based on the Oscar India model and shared the same 5340cc V8 engine, which produced an estimated 306 BHP using 4 Webber carburettors. Aston Martin built 439 examples of the carburettor version between 1978 and 1986, before returning to fuel injection but not from Lucas. This new system was from Magenetti Marelli. Aston Martin revised the bonnet line and produced a further 245 examples. Within the AMOC they are identified as the Series 1 and Series 2 Volante. In either guise, they are extremely rare. Offered here is a 1979 Series One Volante, which has been in the same ownership for 19 years. It is offered complete with full service history and full owners records in support of the mileage, which is just 117,000 miles and is warranted, by the vendor, as correct. Finished in the original white with white leather and white hood, the car is equipped with the 5.3 V8, carburetted engine and "Torqueflite" three speed automatic transmission. It is described as being in predominately original condition and is equipped with the usual options associated with the model, plus a full tonneau cover, which is as new, never been used, driving lights and headlamp wash/wipe system. This rare car is said to be completely reliable as it has been in daily use by the vendor, as his only motor car. The vendor does state that car would benefit from some cosmetic TLC but is in excellent mechanical order. He also states that it has been in great demand for weddings, amongst his extended family, during his long ownership.
