Lot 201: Jaguar Mk II 3.8 MOD
Spirit of Motoring Ascot, Coys (3rd October 2009)
It was in October 1959 that the Jaguar Mk II appeared, making a good car even better. Similar in appearance to the Mk I but with a much larger glass area, it boasted a wider rear track to improve roadholding together with minor front suspension changes to reduce body roll and all round discs rather than drum brakes. Engine options included the 120bhp 2.4 litre, the 210bhp 3.4 litre and, for the first time the 220bhp 3,781cc unit of the Mk IX. Naturally performance was excellent, respective figures for maximum speed and 0-60mph being 101mph/13.1 seconds, 121mph/9.5 seconds and 125/8.5 seconds.
Presented in the most attractive colour combination of British Racing Green with black leather interior, this Mk II was believed to be the subject of an older restoration and is described by the vendor as in excellent order throughout. Having just passed its MoT with no advisories, here is a Jaguar that can be immediately used and enjoyed.
Having been in the previous owner's possession for approximately seventeen years, there are many old MoT test certificates, some service history, old tax discs and receipts in the vehicle's history file. The previous owner spent a lot of time and money on the car, and this is particularly noticeable in the engine bay where new rocker covers are fitted along with a kenlow fan, oil cooler and a chrome filter box.
As one would expect, all panels fit very well with no sagging to the body. The interior has been fully retrimmed in black leather and the carpets were replaced at the same time, showing no signs of wear. The car also boasts desirable wire wheels and the chrome presents itself very well.
The vendor has recently driven JWB887C to and from the MoT station and states that the car still drives smoothly and maintains a healthy oil pressure. This icon of British motoring is presented with an extremely attractive estimate and is poised for extensive use as a practical, powerful and elegant classic car investment.
