Lot 229: 1959/60 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint
Autosport 2006, Coys (14th January 2006)
This much-campaigned historic Alfa Romeo was imported by the vendor from Italy to the U.K early in 2005 as a stopgap while a long-term competition car project neared completion. According to the vendor, its previous owner was non-other than Marco Bodini, who's father ran TECHNO Cars in Italy. Bodini was a long-term owner of this car and, according to the vendor, kept it for over 30 years. Prepared to FIA Appendix K historic regulations, this car possesses both Italian-issued FIA and FIVA papers, which qualifies it for both International historic circuit and road events throughout Europe. Naturally, any historic competition car that has been in existence for over 30 years will have many events to its credit and this pretty Alfa Romeo is no exception. It is a veteran of past Mille Miglia retrospectives, the famed Tropheo Nuvolari plus countless FIA events - supported by the many scrutineering passes that adorned this car's cockpit. On arrival in the U.K, this car was immediately despatched to the renown Alfa Romeo marque specialist, Andrew Thorogood, whose restorations on many famous Alfa Romeos - including the legendary GTA's - are well respected amongst the historic racing fraternity. Andrew's team set about uprating all the safety equipment on this car to the latest specifications plus getting the car in track-ready condition. The cost of this work was 5K+ and invoices supporting this work accompany the car's document file. Andrew noted to the vendor that this car has been fitted with a desirable Veloce cylinder head and exhaust manifold. It was also noted that the car is fitted with a FIA certified fuel cell and mandatory Dunlop CR65 L section race tyres (1-event old). This car is also currently registered with the Gentleman Drivers series (having taken part in the endurance race at the BRDC Silverstone Classic 2005 with Gentleman Drivers). It is also registered with the prestigious Top Hat Racing series and is eligible for its Cloth Cap, Oldies but Goldies and Sebring Salute series. It is, of course, also eligible for many FIA European event plus HSCC UK events. Italian registration papers and logbooks accompany this car, making U.K registration of this vehicle a straightforward exercise.FIA paper number: 0463 - (Issued in Rome 3rd March 1990 Period E Class GTS)FISA papers: 0854 - (Issued in Rome 3rd March 1990 Period E Class GTS)
