Lot 03: Volkswagen BEETLE 1303S

A truly timeless icon, the Volkswagen Beetle is still seen in large numbers just about everywhere in the world. The first imports to Britain commenced in 1953 and the model was to be continuously developed with numerous permutations being available. Through the 1970s, the 1302 and 1303 models were much improved with specifications featuring MacPherson strut front suspension and wrap-around windscreens. The larger 1600cc engines gave a welcome increase in performance and disc brakes were standardised to keep the power in check. Offered here is a 1973 1303S. Finished in white, the car is said to have spent all its life with two acquainted owners residing in the same road. Until ten years ago, the car was in regular family use, by which time it had covered some 82,000 miles and all servicing was carried out by the local VW dealer. Since that time, the car has seen only light use, with the odometer currently showing 86,700 miles. However, the vendor tells us that for some years, the instrument would seem to have been reading some 20% slow and from record of journeys he estimates the true mileage to be 87,400. The car has been in the present ownership for the past five years and extensive maintenance history is supplied, along with a V5C and many previous MOTs. A current MOT certificate expiring 4th September 2008 is also included.
