Lot 139: MG ZT 260SE V8
Classic - Collectors and Historic Motor Cars, Barons (18th March 2008)
From the outside, the quadruple exhaust pipes and discreet ZT260 and V8 badges give the game away. They tell you that, underneath the svelte exterior, this car is an entirely different animal to the 75-based, front-wheel-drive ZT190 . Under the skin, the ZT260 is largely new with significant changes to many functional vehicle systems to accommodate the revised drive-line layout. The rear axle has been mated to an all-new multi-link rear suspension(developed by Pro Drive) while the bodyshell has been stiffened. The car is so different from the 75 that MG-Rover had to start up a new production line. . MG Rover has chosen to mate the Mustang 4.6 V8 to a Tremec TR3650 five-speed manual gearbox, which has been extensively modified to meet MG's specifications and has unique gear ratios to suit European driving conditions. MG also developed its own all-new gear selection system and bespoke hydraulic clutch actuation. With over 320ft lbs. of torque and 260bhp, the rear-wheel-drive ZT260 is a completely different experience to the fwd 190. With a mere 853 (approx.) built before the demise of MG/Rover, the cars are extremely rare but benefit from having Mustang mechanicals, a very common American built gearbox, Bilstien suspension and body panels common with the 75 and ZT. This example is one of the early, MKI cars. It is equipped with black leather, sports interior, parking sensors, boot spoiler, 18" alloys. Finished in MG X-Power grey with black interior, this owner car is offered complete with full dealer history, comprising of 9 stamps in the service booklet and is said to be unmarked inside and out.
