Lot 42: Jaguar E-TYPE SERIES II FIXED HEAD COUP

Classic & Historic, BCA (26th February 2008)

Introduced in 1968, the second generation E-Type Jaguar differed visually from its predecessor with the most obvious changes being the headlamps which were moved forward some 2-inches with the cowls deleted. The air intake was now larger with a broader centre bar, whilst the tail lamps were now redesigned to meet USA regulations and the front, side and flasher lamps were now located beneath the bumper. Inside the cockpit the dashboard now sported rocker-type switches, whilst a collapsible steering column was fitted, again to meet increasingly stringent US regulations. Arguably the best of the 6-cylinder E-Types, this Series II remained in production until 1971, being most popular in the UK in fixed head form.A 1970 model, this coup has been in the hands of a longstanding Jaguar enthusiast for the past five years and it is reluctantly offered for sale due, he tells us, to his advancing years. Prior to his acquisition, the car had been stored for some twelve years and when put back on the road it was evident that much work was required. Refurbishment to the body has been undertaken as necessary, whilst the clutch was replaced, all brake pipes renewed, master cylinder and servo overhauled. New steering rack mountings were fitted, as were replacement track rod ends. The radiator has benefited from a new core and a stainless steel exhaust system is a recent replacement. All instrumentation is said to be fully functional and the car is reported to drive very well. A pleasing feature is the full-length sunshine roof plus period exterior mirrors and the optional heated rear window. The engine bay is particularly impressive being meticulously clean and virtually to show standard, the car having attended various Jaguar events and rallies whilst in the current ownership.Documentation supplied includes photos of restoration work undertaken during this ownership, a Jaguar / Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, V5 document and current MOT certificate valid until 28th November 2008.
