Lot 185: 1953 Steyr/Fuchs 49cc FM 40 cyclemotor
Professor Fritz Ehn Motorcycle Museum Collection, Bonhams (30th June 2008)
Into the near-side rear of this heavyweight, military-style Steyr bicycle is built a two-stroke clip-on engine of the post-1953 type, driving the wheel by chain. Apparently illogical to modern eyes this position was used by both the German Vicky and the VAP 4 in France. The carrier covers the fuel tank, thus keeping the mechanical parts separate from the rider. This example, preserved by the Ehn museum for many years, is in good order, although it has not run for many years and consequently the tyres will need replacing. After a general check-over, this Steyr-based clip-on cyclemotor will be welcome in any NACC event.
