Lot 206: Bentley Turbo R

When first seen at the Geneva Motor Show in 1982, the turbo version of the Bentley Mulsanne certainly raised a few eyebrows and restored the high performance image of the Bentley Marque. In 1985, the Turbo R was introduced with more sporty handling, more power and a number of improvements. The Turbo R was so much better than the Mulsanne Turbo, it caused its early demise. Despite its leviathan proportions, the car would sprint to 60mph in around eight seconds and on to a top speed of 135mph. Finally, after years of refusal to disclose power outputs, the company stated that 320bhp was produced by this superlative engine with its Garrett AiResearch turbocharger. This 1986 example has been in the care of a perfectionist since 2002. A Bentley Owners Club member, he has lavished thousands of pounds on the car with re-veneered interior woodwork, complete repaint in original Ocean Blue metallic, carefully maintained the natural beige hide with blue piping, which is in superb condition and even adding the current, 17" Bentley alloy wheels for that final touch. The vendor states that all of the Bentley control fixtures work faultlessly with nothing detracting from the outstanding presentation of this beautiful car.
