Lot 233: 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Coupe - Ex Phil Hill
"Legende et Passion", Coys (10th May 2008)
On its Geneva Show debut in March 1961 the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation, with all the promise of its looks confirmed by a 150mph top speed and 0-60 and 0-100mph in 6.9 and 16.2 seconds respectively; fast indeed, and combined with superb road holding and remarkable docility. In October 1964 it was superseded by the 4.2 litre model; apart from the capacity increase from 3,781cc to 4,235cc and improved torque but the same power, it boasted a new all synchromesh gearbox, improved brake servo and seats, an alternator and the dashboard was now leather faced rather than aluminium dashboard.Manufactured in 1965 this left hand drive 4.2 litre example is described by the vendor as being in excellent original condition. A very rare feature to this car is that it boasts a full service history from new. The car was previously owned by 1961 F1 World Champion Phil Hill and a signed bill of sale from the Ferrari works driver is included in the accompanying file. Finished in British racing green with a green interior, the car is in excellent condition throughout including the straight six 4.2 litre engine and manual transmission. The car is supplied with a UK V5 registration document and an MoT certificate valid until April 2009. This original specification car with a second to none comprehensive history file and former World Champion owner surely represents the ultimate in E-Type ownership.
