Lot 062: Ford Escort Twin-Cam

Manufactured in October 1971, this July 1972 registered MkI Escort Twin Cam has just undergone a total, five year restoration using original components wherever possible, all work being photographically recorded on a CD ROM and backed up by a folder full of bills. It has covered less than 2,000 miles since the rebuild was completed in 2005 and comes with a valuation certificate from PS Autoart (Paul Stephens) dated February 2007 stating that it has a replacement value "in excess of £30,000."Work carried out includes: original Type 49 bodyshell fully rebuilt with turrets, steel works arches and all new replacement panels. Rebuilt Lotus Twin Cam and ancillaries with a genuine Big Valve head, rebored to 1,600cc with new Accralite pistons, twin Weber 40DCOE carbs, Lotus Sprint camshafts, unleaded seats, competition head gasket, K&N air filters, high pressure/capacity oil pump, Mocal oil cooler, Janspeed manifold, new competition exhaust system, recored radiator, Kenlowe fan and alloy sump guard.Rebuilt 2000E gearbox with rebuilt English rear axle fitted with 3.77 differential. All new brakes including servo, master cylinder, calipers and stainless steel braided hoses. All new suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers all round, roller top mounts, Forest front springs, Group 4 steering joint, multi-leaf CD6 rear springs, double width roll bar mounts, poly bushes fitted throughout.Interior fully retrimmed with genuine contour seats, new headlining, works twin pod dash, works gauges, pea lights, Halda and classic map light, works centre console and switch gear, Safety Devices roll cage, Life Line fire extinguisher and Britax harness seat belts. The original Springlex steering wheel has been retained. New 7"x13" performance alloys with new 205/60 period tyres. Cibie spot and fog lamps with high intensity reversing lamp.This car was the subject of a six-page feature in the March 2007 issue of 'Classics Monthly' magazine, a copy of which is included in the sale. It has also appeared at many car shows since the restoration was completed in 2005 and has not been raced or rallied. With an MOT until February 2009, this lovingly restored machine will make a superb Historic Rally car.
