Lot 132: 1935 Alvis Firebird Special

In September 1934, the Firebird replaced the successful Firefly. Mechanical upgrades started with the engine, bored out to1842cc and fitted with bigger main bearings and water pump circulation. An all-synchromesh gearbox was also fitted as standard. The Firebird could now reach 75mph and priced at a very reasonable 510. It should be noted that Firebirds are particularly rare as only 134 were produced in 1935.This particular Firebird Special is unique. Based on a Saloon, the car was later bought as a rolling chassis with all mechanical components restored and an all new aluminium body fitted. The body was produced by the then current owners with aluminium panels shaped over an ash frame. Also fitted is a folding soft top with frame to keep out the elements. The original seats, gauges and Alvis running gear are reported by the vendor to be in good working order along with the 1800cc Morris engine that is currently fitted. The original Alvis engine is supplied with the car. This Alvis presents a good opportunity to build a unique special on the existing chassis or to be simply enjoyed in its current form. With a current MoT this Alvis special will provide its new owner with inexpensive vintage motoring in the months to come.
