Lot 104: 1970 Velocette LE Mk. III
Spring Auction, Coys (20th April 2005)
When Velocette recommenced production of road going motorcycles after the end of the Second World War, they continued the same line up as before the War. This state of affairs continued up until 1948 when the MOV and MSS were dropped. In their place was the LE, a motorcycle that was quiet, clean and efficient. Immediately taken up by the Police Force, they became a common sight in Englands country lanes. Unusually, this example is black, a colour normally reserved for our boys in blue. This extremely original Velocette has remained in storage since 1976 and, in fact, done only 2 miles since the last last 2 MoT's. With only 16,000 miles on the clock, 2 new tyres and the full set of registration, MoT and VE60 documents, this emotive and unusual motorcycle from yesteryear will be sure to get a few hearts beating faster, whether you remain on this side of the law or the other.
