Lot 203: 1983 Porsche 928 S

Porsche's 928 was a very different car in many ways from anything that the Stuttgart based firm had produced to date. It came at a time when Porsche was trying to expand its range to include a truly grand touring car. As such, it was fitted with a brand new all-alloy 90 degree V8 engine with a capacity of 4.5 litres and equipped with the Bosch K-Tronic fuel injection system. This provided the new car with a very high torque and flexible engine which produced some 240bhp, propelling the car to a maximum speed of 140mph and from 0-60mph in just seven seconds. 1980 saw the introduction of the 928 S, meeting demand for a quicker car that could hold its own against the 911 range, which at that time it was thought the 928 line-up would replace. With a larger engine displacement of now 4.7 litres, this version produced a more impressive 300bhp and much improved performance. This example is a very rare specimen indeed, having had only three owners from new, the second of whom owned the car for 22 years. The current owner informs us that this grand tourer, finished in Kiln Red with a contrasting beige leather interior, is in good to excellent order throughout - as one would expect with just 37,000 miles recorded from new, which by Porsche standards translates as 'just run in'.
