From 1986, the new AJ6 Series twin-cam 24-valve engines replaced the venerable XK Series units, whilst the bodywork underwent subtle revisions, now looking crisper and more in keeping with current trends. From 1989, further changes were to take place with the 2.9-litre engine being replaced by a 3.2-litre version, whilst the 3.6 model was to receive an upgrade to 4-litres. Another improvement was the replacement of the digital instrument panel, which had sometimes proved troublesome, with conventional analogue instrumentation.
