Lot 275: 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta was first introduced as a Bertone styled long wheelbase coupé in 1954. The car immediately met with much acclaim from the motoring public and press; indeed, it rapidly became popular and successful on the Italian motorsport scene. Largely as a result of the enthusiasm of private owners the model evolved at a prodigious rate. This well-balanced little car was introduced with the 1.3 litre engine producing 80 bhp, whilst the ultimate mechanical specification offered in the Veloce models at the end of 1956 provided 100bhp at 6,500rpm. This fine example has been prepared to the specification of the famous Sebring racers that brought a whole generation of American enthusiasts so much racing pleasure for so little money. The vendor reports that the car comes with FIA papers and so should be eligible for a number of historic road and race events. The car on offer is a 2 owner car ,the last owner having owned it for over 45 years. It was delivered new to Torino and has covered only 36 ,000km. The Veloce is a very different car to the Giulietta and is fitted as standard with twin Weber 40mm carburettors, higher compression pistons ,special camshafts ,tubular exhaust HD oil pump and steel connecting rods. The final drive is also 4:1 a longer ratio and better for Autostrada use. The engine develops 103bhp @ 6800 rpm and has a top speed of 112mph. These cars are extemely rare as most of the cars constructed went to max Hoffman in the USA for distribution and very few remain today. This car has been beautifully conserved and retains all the special parts as fitted to the Veloce like the air filter mounted on the firewall, and the carburettor cold air box. it is almost impossible to find a car like this. it retains its original black TO. plate and original log book.
