Ariel were of course one of the UK's pioneer brands starting production of motorcycles in 1902. For over sixty years the name was synonymous with everything two wheels from run of the mill ride to work singles to outstanding engineering projects like the 1000cc Square Four. Latterly though they turned their attentions to two-strokes pioneering the monocoque Leader and Arrow models. However, they finally ended with the infamous Ariel 3 which, certainly helped put an end to a long and illustrious history, albeit by then in name only, as they had previously been absorbed into the BSA Group. It is somewhat ironic that this moped was a three-wheeler given that that was the configuration that they had started with. Despite being novel with its tilting body in front of the two driven rear wheels, even their own advertising people were left with the slogan 'Here it is, whatever it is.' On offer is a very original example of this strange machine with its 50cc Dutch built Anker motor that drives the rear axle via an automatic clutch. This is a good example that would slot straight into a museum collection as a good example of the 200 odd that were actually sold and shows why the British industry failed. Alternatively, with minor work would provide an interesting talking point if used to do the weekly shop, which is what it was designed for. No documentation available.
