Lot 434: 1970 Jaguar E Type Series II Fixedhead Coupe Competition
Fine Motor Cars, Coys (5th July 2008)
This E Type was purchased by its former owner with express intention of creating a fast road/race car. Andrew Tart of Jaguar specialists Vicarage was emplyed to undertake development work on the car, resulting in the fitment of stronger XJ front suspension uprights, vented brake discs and bigger calipers. While the rear suspension was enhanced with a bespoke multi link arrangement to restrain movement under acceleration, cornering and braking. The engine was uprated with a one off camshaft specially ground, and although standard parts are still retained in the engine, they have been lightened and balanced to produce an output of 306bhp and some 328lb/ft of torque at 5,000rpm. Mated to a standard four speed gearbox fettled by ex Jaguar emplyee Alan George and fitted with a racing clutch, the body was rebuilt by CMC to incorporate extra stiffening. In all the result is a remarkably tractable car, having undergone a recent service that can be driven to a circuit and raced as the original interior and bumpers remain on the road legal car. However once at the track it turns in to a very purposeful race car, as the results speak for themselves, a total of 48 events, 43 finishes, and class wins in virtually every outing. Supplied with a large history file containing bills and invoices totaling over £15,000 for the work undertaken on the car, plus race results and photos. A service book, owners manual, current MoT and V5 document are also supplied. A fast road car, or very competetive entrant into the 'Powered by Jaguar' race series or indeed other historic motor racing event or rally.
