Lot 34: Maserati 430

Best known for their racing and sports cars, Maserati moved into the luxury market under the stewardship of Alejandro de Tomaso with the Kyalami, a re-engineered version of the Longchamps from his eponymously named company.� The effective replacement for this was the 1981 Bertone-penned BiTurbo Coup�, powered by a twin turbo-charged V6 engine with 3 valves per cylinder and an output of 180bhp from an Italian tax-beating 1996cc.� The engine was subsequently enlarged to 2.5-litres for export markets and the cars featured an outstandingly well-equipped wood and leather-trimmed cabin.For 1989, many important changes took place.� The engine displacement was increased from 2.5 litres to 2.8 litres and power was up to 225hp at 5600rpm and 246lb-ft of torque at 3500rpm (250hp in Europe).� The Spyder continued and the new 228 and 430 models replaced the previous coup� and 4-door, respectively.� The Biturbo name was dropped but the Biturbo heritage was evident in the new cars.� The 228 featured a redesigned 2-door body with a stretched wheelbase over the original coup�.� The 430 remained similar in appearance to the earlier 425 model.First registered on 24th January 1992, this example of the 430 4-door saloon is extremely well presented in Silver with grey leather and suede interior trim.� Sitting on refurbished alloy wheels, it is most pleasing in appearance and we are informed that it drives exceptionally well.� The comprehensive specification includes power steering, air climate control, wood fascia and steering wheel, electric seats, mirrors and windows and air horns.�A most appealing latter-day classic, this Maserati is offered with documentation which includes an MOT certificate current until 22nd May 2008 and a V5 registration document.
