Lot 112: Ford Mustang 289 Fastback

The Ford Mustang of April 1964 still holds the record as the most successful Ford ever launched, selling over 600,000 in the first production year. This actually spanned from April 1964 to August 1965 but it is still some achievement. The brainchild of one time car salesman come Ford Vice-President, Lee Iaccoca, the Mustang was aimed at the 1960's baby-boomers and at the European imports flooding into America. It was hugely effective in both aims. This 1965 Fastback is said to have benefited from restored bodywork and new paint in 2002. In the more recent past, the auto box has been fully rebuilt and the car has been equipped with genuine Minilte period style alloy road wheels, leather Recaro seats, new carburettor, uprated front springs and anti-roll bar, gas shocks to front and gas+air shocks to rear, exhaust and new propshaft bearings. Finished in dark green with duo tone beige/black interior, this very usable Mustang has completed a number of classic rallies and is offered complete with Rally-Pac gauges, workshop manuals, original tool kit and a car cover.
