Lot 225: 1997 Ferrari F355

For the F355, Ferrari developed a new aluminium 3.5 litre 90 V8 engine developing 375bhp at 8250 rpm with a redline of 8500 rpm, output of this remarkable 5-valve unit was 109bhp per litre ! The engine was controlled by a Bosch Motronic M2.7 twin hot wire electronic injection-static ignition system, and lubricated by a dry sump engine oil circuit. The F355's drive train featured a 6-speed transverse gearbox or an optional F1 electro-hydraulic transmission system with paddle shifters, derived directly from current Formula 1 technology. The manual, all-synchronised system offered short travel through the classic Ferrari gated shifter, the ratio's were designed to give blistering acceleration as well as top speed. The last of the original 308 GT designed bodies, the F355 was the ultimate development, and even with current modern models available is still noted among Ferrari experts as one of the most exhilarating Ferrari's to drive and is much sort after. This left hand drive F355 'Berlinetta' was originally supplied to to it's first owner by German Ferrari agent Bremer GmbH. It subsequently found its way to the UK where it was owner by none other than famous motorcycle racer Ian Simpson, winner of both the junior and senior Isle of Man TT. It then passed into the hands of well known racing driver Jason Plato before ending up with its current owner, a well known American collector based in Italy. It comes with receipts totalling £3,500 from Ferrari agents Maranello Concessionaires. More recently there are receipts to the total of 6,000 Euros detailing extensive work carried by Italian Ferrari specialist to include the all important 'engine out' belt change and the car wears 4 new tyres.
