Lot 115: Jaguar MK2/240 Saloon

Classic - Collectors and Historic Motor Cars, Barons (18th March 2008)

It is hard to believe that 49 years have passed since the launch of the Jaguar MKII. It is even more remarkable to note that demand for this Iconic classic remains undiminished, with specialists offering modernised versions for £50,000+ and restored, unmodified cars, still achieving high values. The styling of the MKII is timeless, the performance is more than adequate and ownership is made simple via a huge spares and specialist repair network. The most underrated MKII is the 2.4, which is good for those of us who don't want to do 130mph in our classic but would rather enjoy the styling and ambience of the car at a more sedate pace. If you are going to own a 2.4 MKII it does really need to have manual transmission. If you want the most powerful 2.4 available you should go for the 240, which is also a little lighter than the earlier car. The 240 is more powerful because it benefits from an improved inlet manifold, which gives a more efficient fuel/air mixture, for those 6 cylinders to burn. Offered here is a 1968 MKII 2.4/240, which has been in the same ownership since October 1969. The car was used for 10 years and was then placed in storage from 1979 to 1999. In 1999 the car was released from its confinement and sent off to be recommissioned and overhauled by a restoration company. The interior has been refurbished with the new headlining and carpets, the brake cylinders and pistons are now stainless steel and the exhaust has been replaced with a stainless steel system. The car is finished in Honey Beige with red interior (Ambla) and is equipped with the 4-speed manual transmission, plus overdrive, It is presented in predominately original condition, together with an encyclopaedic history file, which contains the original warranty and AA Report, from 1969, handbooks and workshop manual and bills, which span the 39 year ownership of the vendor. Virtually one owner, warranted 81,000 miles and wonderfully original condition.
