Lot 332: 1983 Fiat 124 Spyder

Fiat certainly made the most of its shared platform idea with the 124 based cars; in 1966 it added the popular Spider version. The Spider used the same running gear as the saloon and coupe but with a choice of larger engines later on in its life, which included 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and even 2.0 litre twin-camshaft units. Styled by Pininfarina, the two door 124 Spyder was a good looking car which is still attractive to this day, and it proved a highly successful export model throughout the world with 170,000 sold in America alone. The two litre, fuel injected four cylinder engine, in combination with the five speed gearbox, provides eager performance, while the interior is much more spacious than many of its contemporary rivals, making this Fiat a practical yet exciting alternative to an Alfa Romeo Spyder of the same period. Produced in 1983 this Spyder boasts an extensive history file containing receipts for work carried out by notable specialists such as DTR Sports Cars of London. Finished in red with beige seats and steering wheel, the car features electric windows, alloy wheels and a very fresh looking black hood. Only last summer this lovely and useable sports car has benefited from the fitment of new tyres front and rear, a new set of shock absorbers, and the all important camshaft belt has been renewed as well as the engine oil and filter. Since this work was carried out the car has covered only a minimal mileage.
