Lot 014: Jaguar Mk2 3.8 Coombs spec

First registered in July 1961, this is a rather special Mk2 that has been sensibly modified over many years for fast, reliable everyday use. Thanks to its triple carburettors, straight port head, fast road cams and other engine upgrades, it is said to be considerably quicker than a standard car and comfortably holds its own in modern traffic.The car has had a full engine rebuild less than 1,000 miles ago including new pistons and liners, new timing chain, reground and balanced crank, lightened flywheel and new clutch. Power is transmitted through an all-synchro gearbox and the gearchange is said to be very slick and easy to use  infinitely superior to the Moss box usually found on these cars. The steering is also said to be particularly good, being light to use and with no play whatsoever. The brakes have been uprated with 3-pot front calipers from an XJ6 and the suspension has stiffer springs with Koni shock absorbers all round. The bodywork is said to be in good sound condition and the chassis and underside is described as excellent. The whole car has been regularly treated with Waxoyl. The tyres are all new, a stainless steel exhaust is fitted and there is a spare set of chrome wire wheels if the new owner prefers these to the painted ones on the car at present.The car is MOTd until November, taxed until October and is ready to jump in and go.
